Raytheon Intelligence & Space Awarded Next-Generation Special Mission Processor Program
Raytheon produced future-ready mission processor for U. S. Special Operations Command integration on the AC/MC-130J
ARLINGTON, Va., (December 15, 2020) – U.S. Special Operations Command awarded Raytheon Intelligence & Space, a Raytheon Technologies business (NYSE: RTX), the Next Generation Special Mission Processor program. The NextGen SMP is the central processing component of the AC/MC-130J aircraft (which are also known as the Ghostrider and Commando II). The NextGen SMP enables Special Operations Forces mission systems such as the Raytheon Technologies’ Terrain Following Silent Knight Radar to integrate with the aircraft displays, sensors, and other onboard systems.
The NextGen SMP provides the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) a secure commercial-off-the-shelf solution based on an open-computing environment that addresses obsolescence and enables rapid deployment to the Air Force of third-party application software.
“Under this program we will deliver a high-performance, premier secure mission processing system that provides a high-definition, any-video-anywhere capability, and with an open-architecture design, it enables AFSOC to field and update new capabilities much more rapidly,” said Denis Donohue, vice president, Communications and Airspace Management Systems, Raytheon Intelligence & Space. “Our NextGen SMP was designed to be flexible and reconfigurable to adapt to changing SOF warfighter requirements at the pace needed to stay ahead of the threat.”
The NextGen SMP was designed with a modular architecture that enables the system to scale with platform needs, and therefore is platform agnostic and could provide a common open-architecture processing infrastructure to enable portability of software capabilities across other platforms.
The NextGen SMP is part of the RI&S Common Open Secure Mission Computer, also known as COSMC, product family
